Case 1

Mr Hussain, a British born Mirpuri speaking Pakistani man, lived at home in Sparkbrook and was cared for by his family. Due to Mr Hussein’s learning disability his family had difficulties coping with his needs and unfortunately he was required to go in to hospital for care and treatment.

We at Future Home Care were asked to provide a package of support for Mr Hussein. Our professionally qualified Service Manager completed a full assessment of need and a Care Proposal. We supported Mr Hussein and his family to choose a place to live within his local community of Sparkbrook and access a tenancy with a local housing provider. We were able to identify Mr Hussein’s care and support requirements. We responded to the importance of his cultural needs and identity by employing a team of staff to support him in his new home. Mr Hussein’s staff team of support workers are all of Asian descent and all are able to speak his first language of Mirpuri. We were also able to employ a Care co ordinator who speaks Mirpuri to ensure that he is able to clearly communicate his needs and wishes when reviewing and monitoring his service. This has also negated the need for the use of an interpreter to be used by NHS and Social Work teams.

Mr Hussein now accesses a service that fully meets his cultural requirements as well as his other needs surrounding maintaining family contacts, money management, personal care, domestic support and accessing adult education.
